When families adopt children from other countries they are excited to share with the child the new culture. It is also enriching for the family and child to share the traditions of the culture of the child's birth. One cannot find a handbook that tells a family how to encourage this enrichment but often there are several ways that just need to be explored. Adoption is a wonderful cultural experience.
For families of children adopted from China, the Lunar New Year, this year being the year of the dragon, is celebrated on January 23, 2012. There are several fun traditions surrounding this holiday. Children will cherish the memories they create with you. The organization Families with Children from China, can provide numerous ideas to build and strengthen this cultural foundation.
